    Modern War is not more humane or moderated than the conflict of the past. In fact, we’ve more or less perfected the Death Machine.

I had a friend who used to say goodbye by wishing you live in interesting times. He no longer does this. The world is both changing at a rapid pace, as electronics and the internet come take up more and more space in our lives, and is seemingly coming apart, leaving us all feeling distressed and exhausted.

So what will come next? Those of us who want justice, who are tired of empire and war and violence, find it easy to give in to despair. But in the ending of one moment, one time, comes the moment another can come. In this place, if we can listen to each other and learn, we might begin to make something new.
